Eivissa (Ibiza Town)

Eivissa, the island’s capital, is also its oldest quarter: Dalt Vila, the walled old town enclosed by an imposing Renaissance-era fortress wall, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. Narrow lanes climb steeply up to the cathedral, from where you get a sweeping view over the harbour and the neighbouring island of Formentera.

Down by the water sit La Marina and Sa Penya, where old fishermen’s houses, boutiques and bars line up tightly together. The marina draws superyachts from all over the world through the summer months, while the backstreets behind it still carry on with old Ibiza’s daily rhythm of washing lines and small grocery shops.

Eivissa is also the island’s transport hub: the airport, ferry port and main bus lines all converge here.
